I Made Sumadiyasa (1971-..., Lalanglinggah, Tabanan, Bali), better known as Made, studied at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI, Indonesian Institute of Arts) in Yogyakarta, Central Java. His abstract expressionistic works show the universal aspects of Balinese culture and philosophy. He focuses on movement and color to bring out the spiritual essence of his subject. Made was the first Indonesian artist invited to participate in the prestigious Art Asia International fine arts exhibition held in Hong Kong in 1995

Here is alittle history about Bali wood carvings

Bali wood carving has traditionally been featured largely in temple and place architecture. Immaculately carved demons and mysthical beeing decorate pillars, door panels, lintels and window shutters with the aim of protecting the buildings from evil intruders. Scenes of legendary figures placed within floral decor set a more pleasant and educational tone.

With the arrival of European influences, Bali wood carving started to develop along more innovative and commercial lines. These days whole Balinese villages specialize in producing certain styles of work. The Mas village in Ubud Bali is probably the best known for its carving of Balinese female figures, Buddhas, Yogis, characters from Hindu epics and the traditional topeng / Balinese mask, Wayang Wong masks.

Also famous for its modern animal carvings, wooden painted cat carving, dolphin carving, bird carving, antique wooden carving, and Bali furniture.
